Simon Elliman, a Partner in the Dental Negligence team acted for a client who had been seen by the same dentist over a period of 25 years. The Defendant dentist had carried out extensive treatment on the client’s teeth, including restoration of all of his teeth with crowns and bridges, replacement of some of the crowns and bridges, root treatments and general check-ups and advice.
After 25 years the client was referred for a second opinion in relation to the placement of an implant. The dentist to whom he was referred was concerned about the overall state of his teeth and he was referred to a restorative dental practice where a treatment plan was drawn up to rectify poor treatment received.
Ultimately, it became clear that the majority of the crown and bridge work performed by the Defendant dentist had been substandard.
The client required very extensive treatment to put right the condition of his mouth with the majority of his teeth requiring further substantive treatment. The claim settled for the sum of £63,500 which included a very substantial sum for future treatment to put right the poor dental work carried out by the Defendant dentist.
