Steve Wake acted for R in a claim against her dentist for substandard crown placement to her UL1 tooth.
R attended an appointment with her dentist in 2013, to have her UL1 crown replaced as it had come loose and been replaced on several occasions. During the crown fitting procedure, R heard a crack and the crown felt as though it was poorly fitting. R was advised to allow the crown time to settle in, however, the pain and discomfort continued, the crown felt loose and R developed a lisp.
After prolonged pain and discomfort and the refusal of a referral, R was seen by another dentist at the practice. This examination identified the post for the crown was too short and thin which allowed for little retention and it was also noted that the root of the tooth had been perforated when the crown was fitted. This meant the tooth now needed to be extracted.
Steve obtained a settlement in the sum of £5,000 for R for her pain, suffering and future treatment costs.
