Rebecca Callard, an Associate in the Dental Negligence Team, acted for a 36 year old woman, who received £15,000 following substandard crown work and root canal treatment.
Our client attended the defendant dentist in 2010 complaining of a debonded crown on her UL2. An infection was found under her UL2 and it was recommended that she have it root-filled. It was also agreed that our client’s seven upper anterior crowns be replaced as they were old.
The Defendant dentist failed to carry out appropriate work to prepare the UL2 for a post and failed to allow time for it to heal, or take any radiographs, before crown replacement. The Defendant also failed to carry out an adequate preoperative assessment of the pulpal health of the seven teeth that were being prepared for crown replacements.
These crowns were inadequately fitted, leaving a gap between UR2 and UR3 and excess cement present on the teeth, which when partially removed left holes between the teeth.
Deep decay at UL5 also went undiagnosed and untreated. Our client was told by a different dentist that she required root canal treatment on her UL5 tooth and that the untreated decay severely affected the prognosis of her tooth and she will now require a crown.
Our client requires all seven of the upper anterior crowns to be replaced and the damages received will fund this treatment.
